From One Village to a Model the World Can Use
San Evaristo is the first deployment — not the last.
The need turned out to be much bigger than one village
Since Comepesca first raised San Evaristo’s challenges with Steve Bender, the 7 Seas Initiative has heard from communities well beyond Baja California Sur. Requests have come in from coastal and rural communities across Latin America and Asia — each facing a version of the same problem: no reliable ice, no safe drinking water, and a heavy day-to-day dependence on fossil fuel to make up the difference.
That growing interest is why Ice in a Box is being built — deliberately — as a pilot program, not a one-off project. San Evaristo will prove the model, the partnership, and the fabrication process; what’s learned there gets carried into every deployment that follows.

Each unit is built off-site by GivePower and shipped ready to deploy — minimizing the construction burden on remote, resource-limited communities.
No Grid, No Fuel Required
Because the system runs on solar power alone, it can be deployed in communities with no reliable electricity grid and no easy fuel access.
